The Calendar in Canvas is a global feature that allows all Canvas users to view assignments and events from all courses in one place. Calendar assignments and events can be filtered by course and synced with other web service calendars. The Calendar feature in Canvas automatically syncs with other features in Canvas course such as Assignments, Syllabus, and Grades, so if an instructor changes a date for an assignment students will see the change in the tools mentioned above as well as the calendar, notifications, and the To Do list on the Dashboard.

  1. Calendar Navigation – Options for navigating the calendar.
  2. Calendar Views – The calendar can be viewed by week, month, agenda, or scheduler. The scheduler allows instructors to create appointment time slots that students can sign up for directly on the calendar. Check with your instructor to see if this is being offered in your courses
  3. New entry - Click the plus icon or click on any day to create a new event on your personal calendar.
  4. Calendar Filter –Courses are listed with a distinct color chip by the course title. Click a color chip to hide the course events. When a course’s events and assignments are hidden the color display in gray. Click again to display the events again. Each student also has a personal calendar as well. The colors associated with a course can be changed by clicking the three dots next to the course title.   5. Undated items – Any undated assignments will be listed here. Click to open and view the undated assignments.
  6. Calendar Feed – The calendar feed is XML file that allows students to pull events into another calendar such as their Outlook calendar or Gmail calendar.
